Farr 40 Season Starting Soon | Corinthian Division a Winner

On October 15-17 the Peppers Anchorage resort, located in the picturesque area of Port Stephens on the New South Wales mid north coast, will host the 2010 – 2011 season opening regatta for the Australian Farr 40 class.

A number of the Australian teams racing over the upcoming season, in preparation for the 2011 Rolex Farr 40 Worlds, will be racing under the Farr 40 class Corinthian Division rules. In February 2011 the perpetual trophy for the Corinthian Division will be awarded at both the Farr 40 Australian Championship and the Rolex Farr 40 World Championship.

The Farr 40 Corinthian Division allows teams to race with two ranked professional sailors on the crew and limits the amount of sails which can be buttoned and raced with each year. The one design rules of the class still apply to this division creating a competitive playing field for everyone in the fleet.
“As the current Australian Corinthian champion we are very keen to compete against the world’s best sailors who will be here in 2011 for the Rolex Farr 40 Worlds. It is very pleasing to see that the Farr 40 International Group is strongly promoting the Corinthian Division. This division limits the number of professional sailors onboard to two as well as a limit on the number of new sails that can be nominated in each year. This division provides both competitive racing and “great value for money”. I personally challenge all Australian Corinthian boats to join us. A lot of interest has been expressed and with plenty of Australian boats available for purchase or charter indications are that this division will be very strong. A once in a lifetime experience like this for Australian sailors should not be missed” commented Jeff Carter, owner of Edake.

Newcastle based Farr 40 Anger Management, owned and raced by Richard and Phil Arnall will be joining the Farr 40 class and racing under the Corinthian Division rules along with a number of other teams.

“The upcoming Farr 40 Worlds provides us an opportunity to match our boat against the world’s best. Anger Management is a weekend division one boat sailing out of Newcastle Harbour and apart from two other Farr 40’s in the fleet and a brief match up with Bandit in the 2010 IRC Championship at Port Stephens we have not had any class racing experience. Our boat has a tremendous pedigree under its previous name and owner [Hooligan, Marcus Blackmore] and the crew are anxious to see if we can carry this on against the big boys. The Corinthian Division provides us with this opportunity as whilst we sail with the main fleet the division recognizes the difference in our crew standard and sail inventory thereby giving us a chance of a podium finish amongst like minded entrants. The crew is looking forward to the Peppers Anchorage F40 regatta in Port Stephens and hopefully as many other lead-in regattas as we can manage”, said Richard Arnall.

The first event in the 2010-2011 Australian Farr 40 circuit will be the Peppers Anchorage Farr 40 Regatta being held October 15-17 which will be followed by the Pittwater Farr 40 regatta being hosted by Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on October 30-31.
