About Us

Farr 40 Australia is an Association for Farr 40 Australian Boat Owners. Our Class has two objectives:

Farr 40 sailing is a contest between evenly matched 40-foot racing boats, helmed by their skilled and competitive amateur owners and guided by world-renowned tacticians.

The Farr 40 fleet in Australia consists of 27 boats, 20 of which will compete in the 2012/13 Farr 40 Australia Series.

Boats are owned and driven by Australian businessmen and operation of the Class is currently funded entirely through membership.

Crews in this Class consist of yachting luminaries such as Tom Slingsby, Malcolm Page, Mathew Belcher, Nathan Outteridge & Nina Curtis – all successful competitors in the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Rolex Farr 40 Worlds is hosted by a different country each year, a measure of the international status of this Class. This year the Rolex Farr 40 Worlds were held in Chicago in September. Rolex has sponsored the Worlds since 2001, two years after it began, and has enjoyed an 11 year association, demonstrating the prestige of this Class.

Boats in the Farr 40 Class must meet strict One Design criteria so that all boats follow a specific design with no amendments allowed.

One Design rules, unique to the Farr 40 Class, are internationally governed:

The Australian Farr 40 Association is an incorporated association governed by an Executive Committee including Fleet Skippers from QLD, NSW, VIC & TAS.

For any further information on the Class please contact the Class President or Treasurer.
