After three races on the offshore course the leader-board has changed in the 2011 Farr 40 Australian Championship with current Rolex Farr 40 World Champions Massimo Mezzaroma’s Nerone from Italy taking the lead. Nerone could not have asked for better results posting three first places today.

“It was a perfect day today, we wish we could have a day like this at the Worlds. It was beautiful conditions and we are really happy to be here” remarked Nerone crew member Massimo Bortoletto.

Overnight leader Jim Richardson’s Barking Mad is now in second with fellow American team Flash Gordon, owned by Helmut Jahn from Chicago moving into third. Defending Farr 40 Australian Champion Guido Belgiorno Nettis is currently in fourth.

Sailing in a consistent Nor Northeast breeze that averaged 15 knots, the fleet raced on the Manly Circle off Manly Beach which is one of the options for a race course during the upcoming Rolex Farr 40 World Championship next week. A number of boats had to retire from racing with gear and sail damage which will see overnight repairs taking place so they are back on the race track tomorrow.

“I haven’t seen a better day of sailing in February. It was a fantastic breeze that stayed within the 020 – 025 range all day”, commented PRO Peter “Luigi” Reggio after racing.

The Corinthian division has a new leader with Ivan Wheen’s Sputnik moving into the top spot. Sputnik is returning to Farr 40 One Design racing after a hiatus and owner Wheen is enjoying the return especially at a home hosted World Championship.

Racing for the 2011 Farr 40 Australian Champion title concludes tomorrow with three more raced scheduled. The current forecast is for a North to north-westerly breeze ranging from five to 15 knots and tending south-easterly around midday and seas up to 1.5 metres with a Easterly swell of 1.5 metres.
