2014 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship

St Francis Yacht Club, San Francisco 17 October 2014 – Day 3

    Zero breeze, zero races

It has been a long and boring day on the water for everyone with no racing getting underway. No-one is feeling the frustration more than regatta PRO, Luigi Reggio.

“We went out with a nice hope of a southerly to sail in which never happened. We sat around in zero wind and glassy seas then we had one shot of a westerly at about 2pm which lasted for 35 minutes and looked raceable and then it died and the rest of the day was just a joke”.

Last night the jury trialled a protest from reigning World Champions, Enfant Terrible of Italy resulting in a dire situation for Australian boat, Transfusion. Transfusion lost the protest and were penalised 11 points knocking them back from 2nd to 8th place. Skipper, Guido Belgiorno-Nettis was disappointed.

“We didn’t actually realise we had a protest against us from Enfant. Tommy wasn’t aware of it so we didn’t think much of it until the protest was lodged and then needed to reflect back on what happened. It was one of those port starboard incidents where apparently our shute touched their backstay and they won the protest. With no racing today, there is little opportunity to come back from our now deep position of 8th place. Overall, a very disappointing outcome for Transfusion”.

    Current top five: 1. Plenty 1/1/1/6/4/1 – 14.0 2. Estate Master 4/3/8/28/9/6 – 32.0 3. Enfant Terrible 5/7/6/7/2 – 33.0 4. Voodoo Chile 9/6/3/11/2/3 – 34.0 5. Kokomo 7/15/2/10/1/4 – 39.0
