FOG TAKES OVER NEWPORT
Sailing today was scheduled on Rhode Island Sound, however, was postponed and relocated to Narragansett Bay (NEB Pre-Worlds racecourse) due to heavy fog.
In Race 1, the fleet split and Barking Mad held the lead for most of the race only to be pipped at the post by Nightshift, followed by Italian boat Enfant Terrible.
Conditions for Race 2 changed at the second mark, when a thick fog crept up behind the fleet, making it extremely difficult for Tacticians to find the marks with visibility less than 100 metres.
Enfant Terrible was first across the line, followed by Plenty which touched the finish mark, resulting in a 720 penalty turn, moving them from second to sixth place. The cloud of fog was so dense the Race Committee had to relocate the finish line to a clearer position.
Conditions: Sunny to heavy fog with 8-14 knots.
Day Two Results:
1st – Nightshift
2nd – Barking Mad
3rd – Enfant Terrible
