Rolex Farr 40 2013 World Championships – Day 1

     DAY ONE OF THE WORLDS

    Last night, the New York Yacht Club, the Farr 40 Class and Rolex hosted the Opening Ceremony of the 2013 Rolex Farr 40 World Championships.  All participating boat owners and crew were in attendance on the lawns of the majestic NYYC.  Commodore Thomas J. Harrington welcomed all guests and expressed his excitement at hosting the Farr 40’s.

    Charisma kept a steady lead all day taking 3 from 3 bullets.

    Australian boat Transfusion kissed gunwales with Flash Gordon at the gate after the first downwind leg in the first race resulting in a 720 degree penalty turn, putting them in 11th place.  Transfusion came back in the second race coming 4th and then 11th in the third race.  Transfusion is currently sitting in 9th place overall.

    Transfusion crew members: Guido Belgiorno Nettis (Skipper), Gavin Brady (Tactician), Cam Hooper (Headsail Trimmer), Will McKenzie (Mast), Jordan Reece (Strategist), Pete Sheldrick (Pit), Mitch White (Bow), Wulf Wilkins (Mid Bow), Sam Williams (Headsail Trimmer) and Bob Wilmot (Main Trimmer).

    Other Aussies competing: Paul Westlake – Main Trimmer aboard Nanoq owned by HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, Chris Hosking (Main Trimmer for Charisma), Andrew Hudson (Mid Bow for Groovederci) and Max Vos (Tactician for Oakcliff Racing).

     Weather Conditions: Heavy rain mid-morning, followed by sunshine for the afternoon with 10-12 knots.
