Australian Fleet Newsletter January 2011

    Published on in News

Rolex Trophy in December gave a lot of teams an opportunity to line up with a number of our international teams and it is fantastic to see 20 teams have entered the 2011 Rolex Farr 40 Worlds here in Sydney.  We look forward to racing and socialising with owners from interstate and overseas for the 10 days in February when we will all be at Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron who has hosted numerous Farr 40 regattas over the years and is a wonderful location to enjoy Sydney’s wonderful harbour and its surrounds.  Rolex as our class sponsor for ten years will this year be providing Virtual Eye which will be a 3D onboard tracking which will allow racing to be watched from all corners of the world.

With 6 weeks until we kick off the 2011 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship this newsletter contains information regarding the upcoming class regattas in February, namely the Farr 40 Summer Sprint Series on Feb 12 and 13, the 2011 Farr 40 Australian Championship on Feb 18-20 and the 2011 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship on Feb 23-26.

In this newsletter is information regarding the schedule of events from February 14-26, reminders on what documentation needs to be renewed, completed and submitted, Corinthian Division rules, current point-score for the 2010-2011 Australian Farr 40 circuit and website addresses for you to go to for information you may be looking for.

    Corinthian Division class rules

The Corinthian trophy will be a part of all Farr 40 One Design class racing, in regional events and the national, continental and world championships, starting on January 1, 2005.   The rules are very simple – you are only allowed two professional sailors on board (they can be Group 2 or 3) and only three new sails per calendar year to use when you are competing for the Corinthian trophy.    Corinthian trophy competitors will be racing with the rest of the fleet, and owners who register for the Corinthian trophy are also eligible for winning overall event prizes.

Owners may purchase up to three extra new sails each year that will be eligible for Corinthian fleet racing.   Owners will still be able to purchase up to the maximum of seven sails per year, so that they can sail events in either category.  We will highlight the three sails you select each year in the database, so administrators worldwide will be able to see which new sails are Corinthian trophy legal.   The rest of the inventory (as defined in Class Rule 25.1) that you declare for each event must be manufactured in the previous calendar year or older.

Each region will be responsible for organizing the prizes or negotiating with yacht clubs to provide for the Corinthian trophies at Circuit events.   Guidelines for awarding the trophy will be uniform worldwide.  If between 1- 5 Corinthian trophy entrants are registered, first place overall in that category will be awarded.   First and second places will be awarded for events with 6-10 entrants, and first through third will be awarded for 11-15 entrants.
