Australian Farr 40 Class Prepares for the 2011 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship

    header-imgSydney (AUS) – In six weeks the 2010 – 2011 Australian Farr 40 season will kick off an intense four month racing and training time frame for the Australian Farr 40’s who are planning on competing in the 2011 Rolex Farr 40 Worlds in February 2011.

    The first regatta will take place at Port Stephens on the New South Wales central coast and will be hosted at the Peppers Anchorage resort. Following on from this event will be five class regatta before the 2011 Farr 40 Australian Championship and the 2011 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship are both held in Sydney in February and hosted by Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.

    “As President for the Australian Farr 40 fleet I am very happy to say that indications for the upcoming 2010-2011 Australian Farr 40 season are that there will be a very strong representation from the Australian teams at the 2011 Rolex Farr 40 Worlds with many of the teams planning to utilise the class events scheduled over the 2010-2011 season in preparation for 2011. We are looking forward to hosting our international class members over the season and racing with them in Sydney in February at the 14th Rolex Farr 40 World Championship, I am sure that the Australians will be keen to repeat the 2005 result with and Australian team taking the title for 2011 Rolex Farr 40 World Champions”, remarked Martin Hill, President Australian Farr 40 Fleet.

    The last Rolex Farr 40 World Championship to be held in Australia was in March of 2005 and was won by local Sydney sailor Richard Perini and his Evolution team.

    A number of Australian teams who have been travelling to international class events will return to join the local fleet and new Australian teams, all who are planning on taking advantage of having a class world championship on home waters. Teams from Sydney, Newcastle, Hobart, Brisbane and Western Australia all have their eye firmly set on the ultimate Farr 40 class title, Rolex Farr 40 World Champion.

    Will it be a repeat of 2005 or will an international team take the title on the waters off Sydney Heads where the race course will be located?

    Guido Belgiorno Nettis and Lisa and Martin Hill have both brought their two boats programmes to Sydney to do some two boat testing and training before they decide which boat they will race at the 2011 Rolex F40 Worlds.

    New Zealander Brett Neill, a long time owner and helmsman in the Farr 40 class is preparing to fly the New Zealand flag when he and his team return again to Sydney having been one of two New Zealand teams in 2005.

    2010 Rolex Farr 40 World Champions Nerone (ITA) have confirmed they will be heading to Sydney to compete in the 2011 Rolex Farr 40 Worlds as will a number of other international teams all with Farr 40 class championships to their name. Helmut Jahn’s 2010 Rolex North American Champions Flash Gordon 6 (USA) will join Doug Douglass’s Goombay Smash (USA) along with three times Rolex Farr 40 World Champion Jim Richardson’s Barking Mad (USA).

    Travelling to Sydney from Europe will be teams from Germany and Italy along with teams from the USA and New Zealand, all who will be joining the local Australian fleet during the course of the 2010-2011 Australian Farr 40 season as they capitalize on time on water during class events in the lead up to February 2011.
