    MEDIA RELEASE – 7 NOVEMBER 2015

Event: 2015/16 Farr 40 Australian Open Series at Middle Harbour Yacht Club on 7 & 8 November 2015.

    Transfusion’s form builds

It was another triumphant day on the water for the Transfusion crew taking two bullets from four races landing them in first place at the end of day one of the 2015/16 Farr 40 Australian Open Series on Sydney Harbour.

Due to attending his wife’s art exhibition opening, Transfusion owner/skipper Guido Belgiorno-Nettis handed over the helm to Michael Dunstan. The pair teamed up recently at the New York Yacht Club Invitational where they came fourth. This is not Dunstan’s first time sailing with the Farr 40 Class. Michael was a member of Richard Perini’s crew on Evolution, which won the 2005 Rolex World Championships. More recently, a highlight in Dunstan’s successful career was winning the 2010 Sydney to Hobart aboard Secret Mens Business.

PRO Phil Yeomans set the course between north and south head in light and variable easterly conditions of 7-13 knots. “It was a tough day for race management. A runout tide and two tankers caused some delays but it all came down to tactics in the end”.

Newly appointed Australian Class President Rod Jones and the Kindergarten crew had a good day on the water resulting in second place overall, just four points behind Transfusion. After two premature starts Jones joked, “We are learning how to start”. “Tactician Steve McConaghy did a good job but we need clean starts if we are to catch Transfusion tomorrow”.

The Corinthian boats shone today with Edake taking third place and Zen closely behind in fourth. Edake Skipper Jeff Carter used new Doyle sails, which were purchased last season and said they made all the difference. “It’s good to know that our sail design programme going into the Worlds is competitive”. Carter has been a member of the Farr 40 Class for ten years and this experience showed on the water today. A win in Race 2 gave the team confidence to consolidate throughout the afternoon leaving them in second place, just four points behind regatta leader Transfusion.

All participants enjoyed a beer and pizza dock party at the MHYC marina this afternoon as they prepare to battle it out tomorrow for the final day of the Farr 40 Australian Open Series on Sydney Harbour.
